Welcome to the Costa del Sol, often referred to as “Costa del Golf”, one of Europe’s most recognised destinations for golf. With more than 70 courses spread along the coastline, the region offers an exceptional variety of golf experiences, from championship courses and exclusive private clubs to relaxed resort layouts surrounded by Mediterranean landscapes.
One of the key advantages of golfing on the Costa del Sol is the year-round playing conditions, which also makes the region particularly attractive for property buyers and second-home owners. The high season typically runs from spring to early summer (March–June) and again in autumn (September–November), when temperatures are ideal for golf and the courses are at their best. During the summer months, warmer temperatures make early morning and evening rounds more popular, while the winter season remains mild, allowing for consistent golf when most of Northern Europe is out of season.
Many golfers begin their journey in Nueva Andalucía, just above Puerto Banús, where the famous Golf Valley is located. Here, several renowned courses sit within close distance of one another, including Las Brisas, Aloha Golf Club and Los Naranjos Golf Club. The area is ideal for those who want to stay close to Marbella’s lifestyle while enjoying some of the region’s most respected golf courses. For a shorter round or a relaxed lunch with views, Magna Marbella Golf offers a charming nine-hole course and a popular clubhouse restaurant.
Heading east from Marbella, the landscape opens up towards Marbella East, where golfers will find a mix of traditional and more accessible courses. One of the most well-known is Rio Real Golf, located just minutes from Marbella’s centre. The course follows the natural valley of the Rio Real river and offers beautiful views as it stretches towards the Mediterranean.

Further along the coast lies the La Cala Golf Resort, one of the largest golf resorts in Spain, offering three different championship courses in one location and attracting golfers looking for variety and strong training facilities.
Moving west towards Benahavís, the scenery becomes more mountainous, and the golf courses are often elevated, offering wide views across the coastline. This area is home to several well-known clubs, including Flamingos Golf, part of the Villa Padierna resort in Los Flamingos. The course is recognised for its scenic setting and has hosted international tournaments.
Continuing along the New Golden Mile brings you to Estepona, where golf courses are spread between the sea and the surrounding hills. Nearby, in Casares, you will find Finca Cortesin, one of the most prestigious golf resorts in Spain and host of international tournaments including the Solheim Cup. The area also offers more accessible courses such as Estepona Golf, known for its relaxed atmosphere and coastal views.

Finally, at the western end of the Costa del Sol lies Sotogrande, widely considered one of the most exclusive golf destinations in Europe. The area is home to the legendary Valderrama Golf Club, famous for hosting the Ryder Cup and numerous professional tournaments. At the same time, golfers can also enjoy excellent yet more accessible courses such as Almenara Golf Club, which offers a high-quality playing experience in stunning natural surroundings.
Together, these areas form one of the most diverse golf destinations in Europe, where world-class courses, year-round sunshine and Mediterranean lifestyle combine to create the unique golf culture of the Costa del Golf.
